Peavey 5150 I nicknamed my 5150 The BEAST, because when you turn it on and turn it up to about three or four, it sounds like a wall of guitars. It is chunky and punchy and it sounds freaking incredible. I have taken mine on the road and played many, many venues with it. Everywhere I went the sound techs were blown away by the sound that came from my amp. They would walk around it and then say, “That sound comes from just that amp?” I did not use anything but the 5150 120 watt head and a wah wah pedal. It is a monster.

Another great thing about this awesome sounding amp is it's durability. It is built like a truck. It can take some massive abuse and I mean that. I was playing a gig one night. I had a open bottle of beer sitting on the corner of my amp. The bass player hit it with his bass and over it went. It poured right into the vents on the top and my awesome sounding 5150 went up in smoke. Flames shot out of the top of this thing and everyone cheered thinking it was part of the show. It was not.

I swapped the power tubes and then I swapped out the pre-amp tubes. Fired it up and it was as good as new. I will never sell this amp, it is a work of art that I will pass on to my kids. I am not kidding. It is just that good.

But enough about my 5150. You are most likely looking for one and I am sure you know that they do not make them anymore. You are going to have to find one used and this is the place to do it.

If you do not know anything about these amps. Here are the hardcore specs for this beast. The head came in two versions a 60 watt and the monster 120 watt. It has two channels. They are labeled Rhythm Channel and Lead Channel but it is more like, Massive Chunk channel and Melt Your Face channel. It is powered by four 6L6 tubes and five 12AX7 tubes in the pre-amp section.

This is a video that I made a few years ago. You can ignore the actual video unless you like video games but listen to the guitar. I recorded the music in the video using my 5150. It is just the head direct into a small mixing board and then straight into my computer. No effects, no mics, no speakers just the amp. It is only two tracks also. It has a nice crunch and a nice tone. It sounds even better plugged into a speaker cab with four twelves and turned up to about four or five.
